So from Thursday to Saturday this past weekend, Will and I went camping with our friend Mary-Ellen. We arrived Thursday afternoon after a few stops in the city (to get some camping chairs, groceries, and alcohol, of course). It was a LOT of fun, save for Friday morning. This picture shows what we woke up to and what lasted all day until about 3pm. We were camping at Port Burwell provincial park, which is located along the northern short of Lake Erie. It was absolutely beautiful there, the lake is stunning!
While it rained we escaped to the nearest large town, Tillsonburg, where we had Tim Hortons (yay coffee!), walked through their small but impressive mall, and a trip to Staples, we made our way back to the campground when the rain stopped. We made friends with a wee snail that called our picnic table home, it was pretty cool and hung around for a while with us! Once everything dried out, we went to the lake, had a swim, came back and made the most amazing dinner of portabello and swiss veggie burgers with cheddar cheese, baked potatoes, and roasted corn, all over the fire!
I think Will's favourite part of the whole experience was tending to and cooking on the fire. He was an excellent forager too, our first night we didn't need to buy firewood, since he found a ton of fallen brush around our campsite. The second night we purchased a bag of firewood though since all the brush was soaked. The dry wood definitely helped with the fire. On Saturday mroning we made a full breakfast on the fire. We used some leftover baked potatoes from the night before, fried them up in a skllet, and even fried some eggs, and made toast (the toast was my responsibility, I think I did a pretty good job!) and we even brough homemade rhubarb and ginger jam that Will made here at home about a week before the trip. It was fantastic. We even made tea over the fire in a large pot. It tasted a bit smokey of course, but thats ok! our pots and pans now smell of smoke when we use them on our stove, but it just brings back good memories of camping, so thats ok.
Will and I are planning another camping trip for August sometime, but we'll need to get a few things before we do. A tent, for one. We actually borrowed one from my boss for this trip, which was awesome of him. We have a lot of other stuff we'd need since we bought it all for this trip (chairs, water jug, etc). My mom might be able to get a good discount on a tent for us from her work, so I'm going to keep my fingers crossed.

Oh, and I took a picture of my favourite part of the camping trip to share with you all:

Of course on our last day, we spent so much time at the beach we ended up burnt to a crisp, but it was still worth it!
